How do we collect cord blood stem cells?

Before and After Delivery

Before Delivery:

Step 1

Bring along the collection kit given by CSI and hand it over to the obstectrician or mid-wife before going into labour

Step 2

Give CSI 24-hour Customer hotline 1300-88-CELL (1300-88-2355) a call to alert us on the delivery

After Delivery:

Step 1

The collection kit with collected cord blood will be handed back to the father.

Step 2

Give CSI's 24-hour Customer hotline 1300-88-CELL (1300-88-2355) a call to arrange for collection and transport.

Step 3

Wait for CSI's Logistic Specialist to arrive at the hospital or clinic for picking-up the cord-blood unit.

How do we collect cord blood stem cells ?

  1. Baby is born with the umbilical cord attached, the cord will be clamped and cut so that baby can be cleaned and taken care of.
  2. Cord blood will be drawn from the clamped cord into a special collection bag by the doctor or the midwife.
  3. Once the collection bag is ready for pick-up, the father of the baby will need to call our hotline. The collection bag will be sent to CSI lab safely by our logistic specialist.
  4. We will perform all the necessary examination and analysis on the blood. Once completed, red blood cells that are not needed for preservation is seperated.
  5. We will store the cord blood stem cells in cryobag.
  6. The cord blood stem cells will be kept in liquid nitrogen storage tank (-190 degrees Celsius) inside our secured facility.
