Storing Your Blood Samples

There are two main methods of storing stem cells under extreme low temperatures, i.e freezing bags or cryovials. We fully support the freezing bag system which is also known as the “closed system”. We at CSI believe that the storage quality of the stem cells are of paramount importance to ensure high cell viability should the need to use arise in future.

It is a compliant of the American Association of Blood banks (AABB) to store blood samples in freezing bags.

1. The freezing bag employs the functionally "closed system" therefore the cord blood unit will have less risk of contamination.
2. It has "integrally attached segments" which complies to AABB standards. There is no need to unfreeze the whole bag to carry out blood tests.
3. It has the US FDA (Food & Drug Administration) approval for the materials used and the storage methods.
4. Temperatures are very even and stable throughout the bag when conducting the freezing & thawing process due to its greater and even surface area.
5. It is blow-molded to increase the recovery of cells and to improve the overall strength and integrity of the bag.
6. With two conjoint compartments in one freezing bag, these compartments can be easily separated for future use.
7. It is easier to label, bar code and retrieve the cord blood unit as it is one attached unit.
